[identity profile] aldersprig.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] crowdfunding
So. Sunday, I put out a call for prompts (LJ post) on the theme of Gender, Sexuality, and how they can go funky (short title: Genderfunky Giraffes).

21 short and medium pieces later... I still have at least 4 prompts to go. O_O

Yesterday's summary is here (or here)

My nearly-complete summary is here.

While I am now closed for free prompts for this call, I am open to continuing any story at my general rate of $5/300 words. :-) I hope to finish the remaining prompts today.

This was a massive call in terms of prompts, but not very big in terms of dollars generated - $20, my lowest yet. It could be the pool has run dry, and it has been a very busy time for people doing free-plus. (Plus, I threw the call out 'cause I had writer's block, so I didn't plan ahead at all).

MASSIVE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith, who generated 9/10 of the traffic with her signal boosts.

Yay!

I'm glad this is generating a lot of stories. They are fascinating to read!

... or that 9/10 of the prompters came from a pool where people just blew August's crowdfunding budget on poetry. 0_o I'm glad that I managed to drive plenty of traffic, though.

>>Some of them have been tricky, but it's fun.<<

That happens to me with the Poetry Fishbowl too. I need opportunities to push my limits, because I just have so much experience with poetry that I have to go out of my way to find the edges of the envelope. One good approach is simply asking other people to provide ideas, because they think of stuff that I wouldn't.

>>I got some new friends/access list people from this, too, which is always a plus. <<

*happydance* Yes, that helps a lot.

>>are they diluting the funds pool?<<

Hmm ... various factors are in play.

* Crowdfunding seems more active recently, with more projects getting posted. There's a lot of participation but not as much sponsorship in some.

* We may be looking at an influx of creators and creator/patrons, which does spread things out a bit. But higher activity also creates more interest, and patrons can be quieter. I suspect it will level out eventually.

* Clusters of people doing the same category of project in a short timespan can tap out people's interest and/or budget on that category temporarily. One gung-ho project can have the same effect on a wider area, as with my August fishbowl or your Tales for the Sugar Cat.

* Crowdfunding has a semipermeable fund pool. Some patrons largely pump money into it. Some creator/patrons will take some or all of their crowdfunding proceeds and spend that on someone else's project. Some creators or creator/patrons mostly take their crowdfunding proceeds to pay bills or cover specific goals outside of crowdfunding, which pulls money out of the pool. Those are interlocking processes, much like an ecosystem.
