I'm looking for ideas for future prompt-call themes.

Past themes have been alphabetical: Beginning with A, beginning with B (that got a lot of very strange replies and a lot of boobs) or whatever came to mind: the outdoors; erotic, exotic & exogenetic; ways and/or means; and the green.

I'm not really sure what gets people interested, since the response is rather random. Any suggestions?

(The next call for prompts will be sometime next week)

I suggest "Fire" as a theme.

When I do theme calls for my Poetry Fishbowl, I put in whatever I've already thought up plus jot down what other folks suggest. Then I put those in a poll and schedule the ones that prove most popular.

I don't mind! Actually, I'm flattered that people like what I do enough to try similar projects or techniques themselves. I wish you luck with yours. I like seeing the growth of crowdfunding as people explore and experiment with it.

I always find genres (scifi, fantasy, horror, western, romance, etc) good for writing prompts, even smaller genres like steampunk or cyberpunk. This could be particularly interesting in poetry because you rarely see genre poetry. Or even tropes from genres would work. Or combining genres.

You could also go the mythological route and pick archetypes from Jung or Joseph Campbell or even stages of the hero's journey. That might be fun!

Yes...

I started out using very broad themes in my Poetry Fishbowl project. "Speculative Fiction" eventually broke into "Science Fiction" and "Fantasy," and now I'm doing subgenres so the January theme was "Urban Fantasy." I alternate these with other topics; usually every third theme is something speculative.

Locks and keys.

The night sky.
Claw and bone.

The shore.
Light and shadow.
Interstitial spaces.

"The games people play" might make a good theme for prompts.

Also, how about these others:

"Openings and closings"
"Rock, Paper, Scissors"
"The Grand Finale"
"Housing"
"Markets"

or maybe "Creatures and stuff"?
