Request I hope someone can fill
Dec. 30th, 2010 01:36 amI'm curious if anyone could and would make a Barbie-sized sorceress dress for me? Kind of like this one: http://j.mp/hxNRRB but red instead of purple, and solid fabric instead of lace. The reason is, I have a black Barbie brand doll (dunno what her real name would be) that I want to dress up as my dark sorceress character, Lyria Spellspinner. A cloak would be nice too (though with a hood), but depending on price is optional.
If you have the ability to do this, and the desire to, I can pay. I would only need to discuss price first. Thanks in advance!

This board covers all types of dolls, form very large ones to ones at 1/6 scale (which is roughly what a Barbie is). There are people who do the sort of work you are asking about (I've seen some amazing outfits based on anime characters that are VERY detailed). I have no idea how much such a thing would cost. If you have a doll selected, they will need to know which doll it is and what body type - Barbie bodies have changed several times over the last few years, and clothes that fit the old-style twist-and-turn bodies (with the tiny waists and large breasts) will not fit the more modern bodies which actually have a waist and smaller breasts.
You could also float a question in the General Chat area of the Dollie Scantuary to see if anyone knows of an existing Barbie that comes with a similar dress (or at least one in those colors) and a Barbie in a cloak. I know that Mattel did special editions of Ken as Legolas when Lord of the Rings was out and has also done Midieval Barbie collector dolls, so such clothes exist. It could be cheaper to buy the loose outfits from someone who bought the doll for the head to do a custom figure.
In terms of totally custom figures which are poseable (the dolls could do more than just stand there) there are Obitsu dolls form Japan (the ones closest to Barbie sized are the 27 cm dolls). They are fully jointed and are frequently used for custom character dolls as they come with blank faces and no hair (you can pay to have the face painted and either have the hair rooted or buy a wig). This is one of the most expensive options, although the next one I mention (customizing Barbies) can get expensive fast too.
If you want a doll that had very complex clothing, you could visit this lady's site at http://www.dolls-n-daggers.com/Dolls/OOAK_latest.php and while she does not take commissions right now, she does have a forum where you could ask. That group seems to focus mainly on transforming Barbies and other dolls from retail stores.
And that is possibly more than anyone wants to know about the world of custom dolls... Sorry!
