[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] crowdfunding
Hey all, [livejournal.com profile] freyas_fire just pointed me here.

I'm a writer/actor/director/dancer person, and I also donate to other people's crowd-funded projects.

Right now my collaborator, [livejournal.com profile] mithrigil and I are approaching the end of the funding round for Dogboy & Justine, a new musical about life, love and head-injuries that's based on a short play I wrote a couple of years ago. Right now we have 17 days left to raise $1,720.

In addition to the Kickstarter page you can visit http://www.trebleentendre.com to learn more about what we do and hear some of Erica's compositions from another project. You can also read more about the show and its influences in an interview we did with the blog, Now This Sound Is Brave.

Our influences and interests are all over the map. Erica's training background is in opera, and I started life as a journalist before training at Atlantic Theater Acting Company in NYC and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney, Australia.

Work that interests me as a supporter tends to be dramatic (as opposed to comedic), heightened, multi-genre and queer (in any sense of the word). But I'm always surprising myself, so who knows?

One reason I support crowd-funding is that artists can't wait around to get chosen by the big guns. And hell, there's no such thing as getting chosen anyway. You have to make stuff and beat down doors. This helps it happen. I also believe that all artists deserve to be paid for their work, using crowd-funding allows me to make sure that any actor, musician, or tech I work with gets paid, even if it's just a stipend. The arts are a profession. And professionals deserve to get paid.

I do also hire people for various support functions, like PAs, copy editing, web design, and the like. I'm a good agent of Making Stuff Happen. Crowd-funding let's me make that motor run.

Welcome!

I'm delighted to see you here. We're heavy on writers and artists, so it's especially nice to get new members in other arts.

I have friended you both and pimped your project over on my journal. Please feel free to post updates for your crowdfunded project(s) in this community; for a Kickstarter project, weekly is a typical schedule.

If you haven't already found it, you should definitely check out "Wonder City Stories (http://wonder-city.dreamwidth.org/)," which is kind of a superhero soap opera with lots of characters who are queer, disabled, people of color, or otherwise not whitebread.

You might also enjoy my writing. Among other things, I do a monthly Poetry Fishbowl where I ask people for prompts and then write poems based on whatever ideas I get. Next one is Tuesday, Dec. 7 with a theme of "oceans & other waters." Queer and other twists are welcome, whatever can be connected to the theme at hand. Project details appear on the poetry fishbowl landing page (http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/730515.html), along with links to examples.

Woohoo! You rock. I'm glad you found us here.

Watch for the recurring posts: periodically I nudge people to talk about what projects they're creating or sponsoring, what services they need or can provide or would recommend, etc. It helps folks connect and support each other.

Me, I'm a professional wordsmith, available for various writing or editing work. I put my "hire me" details on my Facebook fan page:
