Which Payment Models Do You Like?

haikujaguar is hosting a discussion about different payment models in crowdfunding. I am curious about which ones people like.

Additional Models

The discussion over on haikujaguar has turned up some additional models of payment:

* Layaway -- you pay for a large item a little piece at a time; may be handy for buying things like original art.

* Prepurchase -- your early support of a project gets you immediate access to new material as it appears; older material is eventually released to the public.

* Bonus content -- if a donation target is met, there will be extra material posted such as the next chapter being longer, an extra scene, character art, etc.

I don't think "layaway" is a good replacement for "ransom" as it's too confusing. But there's no reason we can't use the original meaning of "layaway" in a cyberfunded context, whether or not people are doing it yet.

I am intrigued to note that most of the categories match well from creators to supporters; both agree on donation and sponsorship as the most popular methods.

However, there's at least one interesting divergence: the supporters are more interested in perks than the creators are. This suggests that if you're a creator and you haven't tried perks, it's worth trying.
