At the risk of being hit with a stick: time. Time and a lot of free samples.

Echoing [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar's statement - time and free samples.

Depending on what medium you are working in (drawing/painting, words, coding, etc.) you tailor your 'freebies' to generate a following.

I haven't been doing this very long, but one thing I do is when I do have an update at The Roman View (http://ladyqkat1.wordpress.com/), I post it - in here, in a couple of blogs on my f-list and in my own blog - and send out an e-mail to friends and relatives. I tell them to let their friends know about it. Sometimes I mention that there is a donation button on the site.

We are starting to generate a following and we have received a couple of donations - one through the mail (which was extremely surprising) and one on the site. For the one on the site, I posted a second chapter for that day's posting which seemed to generate more interest in the site. The fact that it had stopped at a cliffhanger scene helped as well, I think.

Some of the people who make jewelry have offered a small piece free in addition to what was purchased. Use your imagination. I think that right now, with this new concept, we are only limited by what we don't try.

Try this...
