Answer to a question many have asked

sordak, my life and writing partner, went to the mailbox this afternoon and, amongst the ads and fliers and bills was a plain white envelop addressed to both of us. Inside was a slip of paper with eight words printed on it:

AN AUTHOR'S GRANT FOR YOU

KEEP ON WRITING


Tucked in with it was a $50 bill.

Now, we are (lapsed) members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The return address simply says:

A. A. Grant
KOW Ducal (and I think) Peers
XXX, CA

(I do not want to put down the city. The gifter knows and we know and that is fine.) KOW is Kingdom of the West and Ducal was Labor Day weekend. I am stunned, grateful and delighted to know that people are reading and enjoying our stories.

I think that this says a lot about not only our efforts, but about people in general. I hope that other people who are doing crowdfunding, busking, cyberfunded creativity or whatever you want to call it have happy making stories like this.

To our gifter(s), thank you so very, very much. The money helps, but the missive to keep on writing means so very, very much to both of us.

Thank you for the *hugs*.

It is exciting, which is why I felt I needed to share it here. When my feet finally return to earth, I might try to figure out which is more thrilling - the money or the compliment.

They are both wonderful and say much about the reception our first story is getting. I hope our future stories entertain people as much.
