[identity profile] ellenmillion.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] crowdfunding
1. Sorry for my silence here! I've been away at a 9-day fair that simply ate my time. When I last checked, we were batting around domain names for a crowdfunding/cyber-funded creativity site. I have offered hosting, which has php/mySql capabilities, and I can (fairly) easily install a forum and/or wiki for our use. I will donate the first year of registration on a domain name, and put up a donation button for further registration as needed.

Names we were considering (that were available at the time and *probably* still are...):

creativecrowdfunding.com
crowdfundingcreatively.com
crowdfundedcreatives.com

What do you like? Other alternatives?

2. Torn World, my own crowdfunding project has just closed entries for its first contest, and opened its second for submissions! You can read more details here, and learn more about joining as a contributor here.

3. EMG-Zine is accepting fiction and artwork on the theme of "Faery Court" until Sept 1 for our October issue. Reprints are welcome. Full guidelines are here! While you're there, enjoy our 44th issue, on the theme of "Wizards!"

4. Will any of you creatives be at Dragon*Con this year? I will be in exhibitor's booth 1240!

My preference for the three site names is exactly in the order you listed them. Good job!

Hrmm... I've been working on a site, but, my skills are so far behind where they need to be for this kind of thing. And my husband (who offered help) has been too busy. However, I see a couple options here due to how I'd been envisioning the site. Here were my thoughts/requirements.

1. Profile pages for each person, detailing what they could do (anything from writing to editing to lay-out, reviews, or illustration), their projects & publications, & what they were looking for in collaborators (if anything).

2. Forums to discuss topics relevant to CC.

3. A front-end zine that would feature individuals, review projects & have articles on how to make it work. Because of this, I was looking at a less business-like name: One thousand garrets.

I don't want to step on each other's toes. You're likely to launch faster than I am though I've also go server space lined up for now. I can work with you... or we can split ideas. The zine part was more my idea of a good time anyway. :)

We've each missed each other's backposts. I'd mentioned here once or twice, but, I'd done a few posts to my journal too. I'd been on vacation recently & had some busy periods where I caught up on friends & skipped communities. Between the two... ::shrugs::

I'd been doing reading into *how* do forums & whatnot... and I'd picked up Adobe Dreamweaver to work on the front end of things & was working on relearning how to use it. So... I don't have anything explicit to throw at you immediately, but, I've some ideas. A few people highly recommended Drupal (http://drupal.org/), but, I am in way over my head there. Recently, a friend offered to teach me as well.

I still like the idea of a "creative" name that inspires... with cyberfunded imbedded into all the metadata, FAQ, etc. to make sure it turns up. I don't like the idea of trying to own the term for what we're doing (from a copyright/trademark standpoint)... and if we don't have a distinctive name for the site/larger project, if this catches fire we run the risk of being in a sea of things that are all "Cyberfunded something or other"s.

I'll also go in on the site costs with you.

When someone searches, they'll look first for a word ending in -ing. Thus, "crowdfunding" is a better search term than "crowdfunded". But we can use both forms to good effect.

Hmm...

I love the idea of profile pages (especially if people can Friend each other) and forums. Over on Torn World we are getting a TON of use out of our forum and wiki. I also love the zine idea, and I think One Thousand Garrets is a great title for a zine.

Is "crowdfundedcreativity.com" available? If so, that would be my first choice, followed by ... yeah, your three suggestions in that order.

I'll have to check out #2 and #3 more thoroughly when I have time. Right now it's a few minutes to supper (crockpot beef medley and stuffed jalapenos).

Would you be willing to put out Crowdfunded Creativity flyers for this community on your DragonCon table, if we could make some? I could probably condense the Profile material and some of our how-to posts for the text, if someone else would contribute suitable line art (or we could use clip art).

Yay! Howbout doing a poll for the URL name?

I'll think about the flyers. What's the date for the con?

I'm going to reserve crowdfundedcreatives for the organization, probably.
