A request?

A request: If anyone knows about a free but reliable webhosting site, please tell me. Because my current story (Of Oysters, Pearls And Magic) has many chapters, I thought it would be appropriate to have a site for it where I at least can do more things like having an Art Gallery, Sponsors/Donors and Commentaries. Of course, I am thinking too way ahead of myself (I am, after all, going to give birth soon!). If not, I will stick to my DW journal for the time being.

Hmm...

Would a Wordpress blog suit your needs? You can create other pages besides the blog proper. Wordpress itself offers free blogs but not with advertisements. iBlog offers free WP blogs and you can have ads if you want (that pay you, not the site host).

I have one of my blogs, Hypatia's Hoard of Reviews, on iBlog and they're decent.

http://www.free-webhosts.com/ lists a LOT of free hosts. You'll likely want to look for at least: No forced advertising, FTP, and a scripting language of choice if you'll have any dynamic pages. Subdomains/domains (if you want to purchase a domain name elsewhere, domain names help a lot in recognition) also make difference.

*chuckles*

Being a not quite starving artist myself, I can't offer money for stuff people do here most of the time, but if you need a website shell built that you can add things to easily, yell. I'm a web geek and artist with time on my hands, and helping fellow community types makes my day.

You can see examples of my work at http://www.wetdryvac.net

*thinks*

*makes that a standing offer to anyone who asks from here - a few pages per site, and you'll have to know a wee small bit of web code yourself to put your material in down the road. No more than two sites in progress at a time, so that I might stay sane*

In turn, I'd ask for web designer credit, since then I'd be able to say to potential clients, "And on the side of those insane database builds, I'm doing this stuff too."

I may be interested in your services sometime in the near future, but I am on an extremely limited income. Shilling for you for designer credit would work if you are giving out a general offer. If not, maybe we can discuss something else.

General offer. I'll have to figure out some formalities for it, since I can't afford to overload myself (I consult, and get dragged off on contract pretty regularly, so too many obligations would be very bad), but consider yourself first in line. (One of two I have room for)

jolantru gets dibs on the other slot, to defer, decline, or whatever else, as she sees fit.

I think my capabilities to provide web stuff would probably be a 5-10 page brochure type site, with file download capability. If folks use sites for hosting which handle PHP, that's my area of specialty.

I would very much like to take you up on this, but not right away. I need to think about stuff like what images to use and what kinds of pages I'd need/want. I do music and art as well as writing.

And of course you deserve credit!

We should talk sometime, so I can find out what information I need to have ready for you before you can start.
