More and more I'm seeing "crowdfunded" in the mainstream media outlets to refer to the stuff we're talking about. It's certainly faster to say! What do you think, should we change the name to go with what other people are already calling it? We might get more traffic that way from search engines. We can even keep the CFC acronym. :)

Crowdfunded works for me & doesn't sound as intimidating to those who may still be not as internet involved. I like that it focuses on the people, not the technology. :)

I really like Cyberfunded Creativity; but I also like crowdfunded. Why not use both?

Besides, two terms for the search engines should mean more people find us. (-:

Hmm...

I'm not sure it's possible to change the name of an extant LJ community. I can, however, add "crowdfunded" and "crowdfunding" to the Interests list and the description in the Profile page.

I see no reason not to use both terms. I like "cyberfunded creativity" because it specifies a medium and appeals to people who like cyber-anything. But you're right about "crowdfunding" being shorter, and it may appeal to a different audience.

I think "crowdfunding" would fit. I'm willing to consider renaming the community, though I would put it to a vote and see which option more people prefer.

Also, renaming costs money and sounds complicated; that means that somebody other than would have to pay for it and do it.

I have posted the poll. I included a description of the proposal, along with pros and cons for keeping the current name or switching to the proposed name. I also encouraged members to vote because this will affect everyone in terms of community promotion.

Thank you for offering to fund the switch. I mentioned the cost, but also that someone had offered to cover it.

I really don't feel up to fiddling around with a name change myself. What I'd like to do if people vote for a change is get someone else to volunteer as a community maintainer and take care of that task. I've been serving as the community's sole maintainer since I launched it; I would like to have someone else on general principles, but the list hasn't have a lot of really active members. Things are picking up now, though, so I should be able to find somebody willing.

I'll make the offer to you first: would you like to be added as a maintainer of this community?

Thanks! I have added you and [livejournal.com profile] talkswithwolves as maintainers of this community. Please check your account to make sure that went through properly.
