Half Sick of Shadows Project
Dec. 3rd, 2008 11:40 amI just finished a final write-up on the cyberfunded creativity project I did in November. There are a lot of thank yous in there.
If you don't remember, I was trying to write thirty short stories or poems based on people's prompts during the month of November. Donations would determine which pieces remained available at the end of the month. When I started out, I wasn't sure how this would go. I was doing it in part for accountability. I need deadlines in my life. I also needed to prove that I could find a way to make the time.
I have to say that this was a stunning success. My patrons paid for about 3000 words. Did I make enough to quit my day job? Nope. But since my day job is dropping me, I'm seeing it as an opportunity to really explore this for a while. Writing has always been what I wanted to do -- I've just been too afraid to do it.
I did raise enough to give a nice chunk of money to someone who needed it, and, to get myself something to remind me of the journey. The leftover will probably funnel back into other people's cyberfunded projects and/or get used towards holiday gifts.
If you're interested in reading the project, all pieces will remain available until the Sunday. My project description page has links to all of the pieces.
