September Creative Jam Weekend
Sep. 17th, 2016 08:06 amThis weekend's Creative Jam is off to a morning start. It could be a late start, depending upon your time zone and perceptions, or it could be something more complicated… and that's the theme of this month's writing.
Perceptions.
Is the innocent-seeming next-door-neighbor secretly a-- well, we're all here because we love to write, so filling in that sentence will be as varied as our writing styles and genres.
Everyone is eligible to leave prompts, or use them. Prompt responses can be treated as a new prompt and used as well-- think of a band of improvising musicians, and the idea becomes clearer, especially as a prompt could spark a drawing or a bit of fiber art, music or a mixed-media piece.
You don't have to post “claimed” for an idea-- the surprise of replies is part of the fun I have when participating, for example, and it keeps the atmosphere relaxed. You are encouraged to post at least one item for free. It's also considered good manners to share a private, reading-only copy of the creation with the person who sent the prompt, so they can enjoy what their idea sparked.
Following up with replies which show posts available for sponsorship is encouraged, too.
Subject lines are your friend. Use it to indicate an “Open Playground” a place where everyone is welcome to contribute. Since I'm subbing for
ysabetwordsmith today, I will quote her words for an Open Playground: Schrodinger's Heroes. “Everyone is welcome to play with Schrodinger's Heroes. (If you're new to this project, you can start here.) “
You can also use “Prompt filled: title” to give a link to a finished item hosted on your own DW or LJ page. There's no time limit on the prompts or the inspirations, so following through with a little note back to the appropriate thread is like getting a surprise present in the mail.
The Creative Jam runs all day Saturday and Sunday (17 and 18 September), and I apologize for the technical glitch which delayed us early risers from hitting our seats and raring off.
Image Prompts:
Optical illusion
Forest face illusion
A new image- I hope. Raise Your Hand.
Title Prompts:
“A Long Way to the Bottom”
“Think Outside the-- Dave, Somebody Stole the Box!”
“The Secrets Hidden in Silence”
Text prompts:
What's the difference between a temporary solution and a permanent one, down where it matters?
Which of your favorite movie/TV franchises 'dropped the ball,' and can the problems be fixed?
History happens in cycles. Which cycles do you think we're copying closest right now?

Date: 2016-09-17 03:53 pm (UTC)The thing where people never believe abusers are abusive because the abuser in question is such an upstanding citizen and nice person—to everyone but the people they're abusing.
The thing where people think everyone has a level playing field now and any further attempts at affirmative action or whatever are attempts to give certain historically disadvantaged demographics unfair advantages, when the situation is still really more like this cartoon by Emanu of a white man starting a race with two hurdles on his path, where the black woman he's racing has barbed wire, an alligator, a brick wall, and a pit trap, and there's a ball chained to her foot. (I've seen that image captioned "Quit whining. It's the same distance.")
Living in a closet.
filled: The Huntress
Date: 2016-09-17 04:11 pm (UTC)the forest’s queen,
between the trees and stones and brooks.
Sometimes She runs,
all forests’ queen,
between the trees and stones and brooks.
When She walks,
sometimes beside
someone who reads from their prayer books
Her titles, stories, name,
sometimes She blesses
this someone
who knows to speak Her name
in the forest that She rules.
But patience She has not for fools,
nor those who’d cut Her forest down
to make room for homes or farms
or wood for furniture.
To such men She bares Her arms,
She bears Her arms,
and lets them bear the consequence.

*Synaesthetes using their unique modes of perception to their own and others' advantage i.e. picking up on a fault in a given piece of machinery because the color of the tone at which a motor normally runs is wrong. In the interest of full disclosure, I can do this one RL.
*Neurodiversity as a respected asset, rather than treated as a party trick.

Date: 2016-12-17 08:57 am (UTC)This confuses me a bit: has the color changed from its "usual" to something different, or is the "usual" wrong for the motor somehow?
If it's the former (i.e. change from usual), I have a similarly keen ability to detect the no-longer-usual. Can be *very* handy sometimes, such as when the subtle change in sound under the car hood prompted a visit to the mechanic as the water pump was seizing, *before* the engine overheated.
