Crowdfunding Creative Jam
Feb. 14th, 2015 12:20 amWelcome to the thirty-seventh Crowdfunding Creative Jam! This session will run Saturday, February 14-Sunday, February 15. The theme is "Resources." Visit the Creative Jam over on LiveJournal.
Crowdfunding Creative Jam
Everyone is eligible to post prompts, which may be words or phrases, titles, images, etc. Prompters may request a specific creator, but everyone else may still use that prompt if they wish. Prompts may specify a particular character/world/etc. but creators may use the prompt for something else anyway and post the results. Prompters are still encouraged to post mostly prompts that anyone could use anywhere, as this maximizes the chance of having creators make something based on your prompt. Please title your comment "Prompt" or "Prompts" when providing inspiration so these are easy to find.
Prompt responses may also be treated as prompts and used for further inspiration. For example, a prompt may lead to a sketch which leads to a story, and so on. This kind of cascading inspiration is one of the most fun things about a collective jam session.
Everyone is eligible to use prompts, and everyone who wants to use a given prompt may do so, for maximum flexibility of creator choice in inspiration. You do not have to post a "Claim" reply when you decide to use a prompt, but this does help indicate what is going on so that other prompters can spread out their choice of prompts if they wish.
Creators are encouraged, but not required, to post at least one item free. Likewise, sharing a private copy of material with the prompter is encouraged but not required. Creative material resulting from prompts should be indicated in a reply to the prompt, with a link to the full content elsewhere on the creator's site (if desired); a brief excerpt and/or description of the material may be included in the reply (if desired). It helps to title your comment "Prompt Filled" or something like that so these are easy to identify. There is no time limit on responding to prompts. However, creators are encouraged to post replies sooner rather than later, as the attention of prompters will be highest during and shortly after the session.
Some items created from prompts may become available for sponsorship. Some creators may offer perks for donations, linkbacks, or other activity relating to this project. Check creator comments and links for their respective offerings.
Prompters, creators, and bystanders are expected to behave in a responsible and civil manner. If the moderators have to drag someone out of the sandbox for improper behavior, we will not be amused. Please respect other people's territory and intellectual property rights, and only play with someone else's characters/setting/etc. if you have permission. (Fanfic/fanart freebies are okay.) If you want to invite folks to play with something of yours, title the comment something like "Open Playground" so it's easy to spot. This can be a good way to attract new people to a shared world or open-source project, or just have some good non-canon fun.
Boost the signal! The more people who participate, the more fun this will be. Hopefully we'll see activity from a lot of folks who regularly mention their projects in this community, but new people are always welcome. You can link to this session post or to individual items created from prompts, whatever you think is awesome enough to recommend to your friends.

Date: 2015-02-16 08:35 pm (UTC)Thinking about connections led me to a pair of poems about Glyn and Ruggiero, tying into some stuff that
"The Strength to Persevere" explores how Glyn views Ruggiero as a protector and a source of motivation, and she doesn't know if he quite gets the importance of that.
36 lines, Buy It Now = $15
"The Treasure of Happiness" reveals how Ruggiero sees Glyn and precious and resourceful, even though he knows she doesn't see herself that way.
48 lines, Buy It Now = $20
They're still working through some communication challenges, but they're so good for each other, these two.
"Anahata" -- a free-verse poem about Betty Ross and Bruce Banner doing yoga together.

Title Prompts:
"The Forest for the Trees"
"Root of Evil, Flower of Heaven"
"The Long End of the Lever"
Text Prompts:
* There is only one end when a system has more energy going out than coming in.
* The search for scarce resources in a fantasy setting where people may be mining or scavenging components for magical spells.
* Blood as a resource precious to vampires.
* How do the available resources -- types of wood, stone, wild animals, etc. -- influence civilization? (Guns, Germs, and Steel made a fascinating argument that Eurasia's wildlife suitable for domestication gave its humans an edge.)
For
* Mallory and/or Damask using stage makeup at a SCA event (probably skipping ahead a few months to summer)
* Sabine making things for the kids
Earlier we talked about martial arts stuff and how different the styles really are, so I collected some videos. A character should consider their body type, culture, goals, and other context in choosing which to study.
Wheelchair self-defense
Criptaedo
Aikido master Morihei Ueshiba (This guy's superpower was seeing where bullets were going to hit, so he could be somewhere else.)
Ninjutsu video
Jiu Jitsu
Fight Science Kick Test (Capoeira, Karate, Muaythai & Taekwondo)
Re: Prompts
Date: 2015-02-14 03:50 pm (UTC)Spring had brightened into the
wavering promise of summer
before Sabine worked up the nerve to
knock sharply
at Hannah's door, her free hand pinning a
box almost too large to grip,
crammed full of
nothing and everything
tight against her hip as she
waited.
Traders and keepers
Date: 2015-02-16 11:45 pm (UTC)--
Some say men know what they're doing at the barter, but they haggle like ducks: nibbling back and forth instead of offering what they already know someone wants and asking for what can be given. So we send them around to the taverns to sing songs and drink beer, and ask about the latest new breeds for our animals. Men are good at holding on to things, so we let them do that. They'll hold to each other and hold their drinking bowls, and we'll hold the coins for long enough to exchange a few.
Here, Estima says her wheat is good, and I look it over. "I have eight eggs today for this." She frowns, and shakes her head. "Would you like to talk about what you need?"
She leans close, for needs are secrets, and says, "My husband can't give me a child."
I hug her gently. "I'm sorry, sister. That's a farm's worth of need. Is there something else?"
She nods. "I'd like two good hens, and you can have a bushel, plus a small bottle of drink."
I nod, and kiss her. It's a good deal, and my husband will be happy. I ask, "Have you told anyone else?"
She shakes her hand no. "Only you, sister. I thought as my cousin I should let you know. You're good at finding lovers for giving gift-children."
I nod. "I'll consider if I can help you. Your man is a good one, worth his keeping, and I don't want to hurt him."
She smiles sadly. "I'll ask him to talk with you. It may be that he can convince you we both want this."
I nod. "I'll bring the hens in a little while. I need to find new sandals and incense today while the woods merchant is here." He's very odd, I don't say, but we all understand. Foreign men don't know how to trade either, but at least they're polite when we don't kiss them. The few who get angry get banned from the markets, after all.
She smiles. "Good gather to you. I'll be ready just before the zenith hour."
We part at peace on the outside, though I am troubled. My husband will have to play nibbling duck today if we are to come home with the ox we need, as I'll have to trade his coins for chickens. But I am content that my cousin trusts me with her need.

Playing in a world with shapeshifting dragons, anyone?
In a society which collects a plentiful resource like information, how would someone pick and choose what to invest their efforts in?
