introductory (eep!) post
Dec. 10th, 2014 10:12 pmNow I've finally got up the courage to do this, hi all!
I'm Chanter, she who tries to be a donor when possible but who generally lands on the creator (writer, specifically) side of the equation. I'm a crowdfunded scribbler. :)
My main universe at this point is one among the branches of
ysabetwordsmith's Schrodinger's Heroes project. It started out as politically-shaded speculative fiction, but the political turned personal, storywise, pretty much at the outset. It's evolved from one straightforward story arc to a much more involved tapestry with its own cast of characters in addition to the local SH team, and new weaving is happening all the time. It's come to be called the orange!verse, to the core SH dimension's scarlet!verse. Pat's beloved car supplies the name for each 'verse, though Oranje (the Dutch spelling is relevant) has yet to appear in published work. Scarlett's shown up already, though.
Sponsorable and already sponsored pieces are viewable over here

and there's a PayPal button on my profile page.
A more complete list/timeline for the orange!verse, including freely-posted pieces, is here:

Sponsorable pieces are listed with pricing, see above links. Sponsored or freely-posted works have linked text. Feel free to send me a message if you have a story you feel like commissioning or a prompt you want to bounce off me; I'll happily go that route. Prompters get to see their fic before it's unlocked to the general public via sponsorship.
Be advised, this universe is not all unremitting darkness and gloom, but it does deal with some heavy issues. Refugee stories, homophobia and transphobia, gender normativity, systemic racism, and physical and sexual violence all show up, some once, others quite widely. I try to post warnings, but clicking on a specific fic does automatically expand a cut tag as far as I remember, and I don't want anyone getting a painful surprise. On the upside, there are distinct elements of radio and language geekery all through this series. :)
... Er. That was quite an infodump. Hi?

I love having bifocal people.

I love this so much. Even though the stories lean personal, I think the political shines through because it makes the setting so distinctive in how it influences people's lives. Yes, it's dark, but so much of it draws on actual news in our world that I count this among the more relevant science fiction I've read. It really takes a hard look at where we are, we might be going, how laws and society impact individuals. Quantum physics is fundamentally about how our choices create the universe we live in.
For folks who are new to this, Schrodinger's Heroes is an open-source fandom about quantum physics and saving the world from alternate dimensions, with a diverse cast of characters. What Chanter writes IS one of those alternate dimensions, which I think is awesome. Start Here to explore the fandom, and Orange!Verse along with other series is listed on the Original Works page; there are currently 12 published installments and some other stuff sponsorable or in progress for Orange!Verse.
Like the concept, want to try it yourself? I post Schrodinger's Heroes in the prompts for the Creative Jam we hold in
