My friend
shadesong has been doing a project online to help her daughter Elayna raise money for summer camp. Both of them have been writing fairy tales for cyberfunded creativity. Alas, I'm too broke to chip in myself, but I can help spread the word.
I'm very much in favor of young people working to raise funds for things they want to do. It builds useful life skills and gives a great sense of achievement. I have some fond memories of doing that myself. My high school trips to Mexico and Russia were funded in part by me selling things like sand candles I had made, as well as official class fundraisers. My grandmother contributed a quilt fashioned after the school mascot. Well, the football captain was graduating that year, and he had a big family. By the time all was said and done, his relatives had about a third of the raffle tickets for that thing! Can't remember which of his relatives won it, his grandmother maybe, but he wound up with it. I wound up with several hundred dollars toward my travel fund. It was a lot of fun.
Writers need experiences to write about. If you have a few bucks to spare, please help Elayna go to camp.
