Your prompt, "How to carry something between dreaming and waking," sparked a short fic between Aidan Spencer and the social worker who dropped in unexpectedly, Heidi Langenberg. A taste:

“If you're not pressed for time, I thought you might want to help with the new garden for a little bit. And if you're willing to try something I was taught when learning to control my gifts, oh, ages ago,” he offered lightly, “you're welcome to nap on the screened porch for half an hour or so.”

“Are you saying I need a nap?” She summoned a tired smile, knowing he wouldn't think she was being snappish even if she couldn't quite manage humor yet.

“No,” he offered seriously, even as one hand automatically adjusted the soft hat Saraphina wore. “It's a meditation meant to carry things from dreams to waking thoughts. Since I was born with my ability, that's one of the first ways I was taught to recognize when it was active, actually doing something.”

“What would... I'm a nary,” Heidi protested.

“Not in this, not really,” Aidan corrected. “Everyone has a soul, a something intangible and unique. Something which feels bruised and dinged and aching right now. I don't even need to use my abilities to see it, Miss Langenberg. You're feeling better than when you got to the diner, but you're still... limping, I'd call it.”
