The Scholar's Mate is the first in the Sixty-Four-Squared series, a part mystery, part-urban fantasy series. ... And Chapter Ten is special, if only because it brings about the Introduction of Hal. Hal, short for Shalhevet, although don't call her that, was first introduced in the context of the corresponding poetry, most noticably Lior's Dream and Hal's Nightmare.
