Sketch Fest is today! Another 48 hour event! (Just a few more hours on the currently available artwork, so grab any you've been eyeing while you can!) http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/

Also! Have you been considering joining Portrait Adoption? We're going (almost) paperless! You can now sign up and submit portraits without sending in a hardcopy contract. You DO have to send in signed certificates to offer your work as standard adoption (which comes with a print and certificate). Contact me for details! http://www.portraitadoption.com/

EMG-Zine needs work to the theme of 'centaurs' - fiction, poetry, artwork... and we're always on the hunt for great non-fiction articles. Reprints are welcome, this doesn't have to be new work! Also, volume one of our anthology is available as a FREE pdf download! http://emg-zine.com/

Torn World is running a contest through the end of the month - the theme is 'Fashions and Fads,' and we're looking for fiction, poetry, artwork or 'meta-fiction' (in-world articles about Torn World itself.) The contest information is here: http://torn-world.livejournal.com/94622.html and more information about the shared science fantasy world of Torn World can be found here: http://tornworld.net/

The Giraffe Call is Still Open (and on LJ)! It will stay open until this evening.

Also, if you have prompted but only left one or two prompts, please feel free to leave a couple more! We've gotten to the incentive levels where everyone gets at least 3 prompts written to, whether or not they tipped!

At $211, we are just $29 from reaching the next incentive level, where I will hold a chat session with characters! (At this level, I'll almost have paid off the carpet as well as the furnace bill!)

Claim your words! If you have donated to this call, or to any call, you can ask for $x100 words continuation on any story posted on my journal!

Argh, looks like Apple insists on the being exclusive, as per the new Kindle Select lending program. Pooh! I missed this on my first read-through of the article : "and it's worth noting that using the iBooks Author app means you can only sell your iBook in Apple’s iBookstore."

This just crossed my desk at work. I'm taking a 15 minute break to post here and over on DW. This is exciting news!

Apple released a free app that makes an ebook and runs on OSX, and can be tested with an iPad. The resulting ebook can be uploaded to the iBookstore directly. This appears to allow indie authors with a Mac at home to go direct to Apple, instead of using Smashwords. You can embed images and videos easily.

If you don't have a Mac at home, why not call your local library? Some libraries have content creation labs which are typically used to make music or videos, which often include Macs. This is a free app which could be added. Some libraries also have iPads to either check out or use in the building. If you have not visited your local public library in a while, give them a call or visit their website to see what they offer!
