All right! The One Question Weekend was successful, as far as I'm concerned: Teresa and I received many questions, as well as donations and much thanks, and I think we both learned a good amount about working together on this.

The donations total this month for One Question days is $35, which may not seem like much, but is well on its way to paying bills for me; also, I believe it's not out of line for a starting provider of abstract services, whose interest is in learning how rather than focused on money first; though I'm valuing based on art sales among fandom, rather than professional services to the general public (which cost $50-150 for an hour or so of face-to-face services; time-based billing doesn't work as well in a blog or journal format like this).

Over time, what I'm looking for is help boosting signal, as well as more participants, even if you guys don't donate cash. I intend to make this a regular project, likely on the ides of each month (in other words, halfway through each month); most often a single day rather than a full weekend, though we may sneak in a weekend here and there).

I'll probably also add in draws from the Hero's Deck, for variety's sake. A draw from the cards may be just as helpful sometimes, and the price will always be less than a reading from a channeled Guide.

Those of you who missed the weekend, I'd like to offer something I've learned from other [livejournal.com profile] crowdfunding members: a follow-up offer. (For example, [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar offers paid readings after her popular free one-card draws, while [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith follows her fishbowls and the initial flurry of free and purchased poetry with polls and other audience-participation methods for funding more poetry.)

If you missed the One Question Weekend, you can still donate $10 or more and ask what you like. Teresa and I will be glad to answer.

 [personal profile] wrenstarling is doing a one-card draw with the bird oracle deck.  This is a unique deck, so you won't find it elsewhere.  If you relate well to birds, this project is likely to appeal to you.  Perks are collective: the higher the donations, the fancier the bonus reading gets, with the lucky recipient drawn from donors or all participants.

There exist several creative projects that are open-participation in various ways.  Muse Fusion is focused on the shared-world setting Torn World, but any TW contributors can participate, everyone can leave prompts, and any kind of creative material is fair game.  Sketch Fest is focused on art, but anyone can leave prompts or claim prompts.  You get the idea.

Also prevalent are complaints that "there isn't enough X."  Think of all the under-represented motifs you've heard of -- sexual diversity, characters of color, women in reasonable armor, women anything  really.  Various folks have responded by recommending favorite examples and/or creating more such stuff.  Crowdfunding is particularly suited to filling this kind of gap.

What do you think about the idea of organizing some kind of "panjam" here where anything goes?  Pick a theme, anyone can prompt, anyone can create whatever they create based on prompts -- sketches, sculptures, fiction, poetry, comic strips, music, etc.  Folks could suggest themes and then vote on the most popular ones to try using.  Creative jams are fun; we have a lot of awesome talent on this list and I think it would be exciting to give everyone a chance to play together.

Thoughts?  I'm posting this on both the LiveJournal and Dreamwidth communities.

EDIT 9/20/11: Okay, it looks like some folks are interested. (See the Dreamwidth discussion also.) Let's start collecting possible themes. List your suggestions in a comment and I'll collect them up here. We have 15 themes now, and 15 is the maximum choices in a poll; I'm closing theme suggestion here, and we can always do another one later. I'll post a poll of the themes on Monday; that should give us time for more discussion. Probably the poll will contain a checkbox question for which themes you'd enjoy participating in, and a radiobox question for which theme you'd like to feature first.

PROPOSED THEMES (closed):
* alternative sexualities / QUILTBAG
* blood
* characters of color
* disabled people (invisibly and visibly disabled)
* feminism
* food
* growing old
* inner worlds
* kink
* misfits
* nonviolence
* outer space
* preservation/conservation
* respect
* women in sensible armor
