aldersprig: (Winter)

HERE (or on LJ)

Last Friday (and on LJ) I opened up the Winter story "The Way Things Flow" (open to a better title) for sponsorship.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rix_scadeau and [livejournal.com profile] the_vulture, the story is now completely available for reading a href="http://aldersprig.dreamwidth.org/96275.html">here (or on LJ).

This is part 1 of a three-part story; stay tuned for opportunities to fund the rest.

Thanks to everyone for their support! I'm getting closer and closer to that giraffe carpet! (This is the first time I've functionally put up a written story for sponsorship!)

I am starting up a new crowdfunding project, doing abstract ACEO (2.5 x 3.5 inch) paintings to prompts! I am raising money for curtains for a new nursery, and have a tier of both personal and group incentives: tip to leave your prompt early, to get an icon (as below), to get the original painting, to request a larger painting, or to snag a few of the unclaimed ACEOs! If we hit benchmarks, everyone may get a painting, or an icon, or an animated icon, or even a second painting.

You can see examples of the paintings I've done and read more about the project here: http://ellenmillion.livejournal.com/1213361.html

The project will be open for free prompt participation Tuesday, August 9, from about 9 AM - 1 PM Alaska time, or about 1 PM - 5 PM ET. Tip in advance to leave your prompt any time between now and then and guarantee a painting!

Feel free to ask any questions. :)

What works?

What do you think distinguishes a crowdfunded art project that works from one that does not? Clearly defined goals? Incentives? Opportunities for audience participation? I am quite curious, as I work to develop a project of my own.

What is a landing page? If an artist has a single, ongoing (over multiple months) project, would it be beneficial to create one?

One more question: are patrons more likely to donate when they know where the money is going?

For anyone who's been eagerly awaiting a chance to buy secondhand books from a source that makes royalty payments to living authors, here's an update about Priscilla King's Online Bookstore, open at last.

From here it looks as if the "purchase" widgets at http://priscillascatsanctuary.weebly.com should work. At the moment of posting, "purchase" links are up for Lois Henderson's Another Way of Seeing and Wendell Berry's Another Turn of the Crank. More "purchase" links will be going up during the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, will some kind person please buy one of these two wonderful books and confirm that the widget is working?

I've just launched my alternate LJ at [info]pkszine. This is the site where I plan to post content that's meant to be of enough general interest to attract sponsors. For the next two weeks, it's free for everyone to read for these. After that, it'll be locked...unless I receive the $20 payment that will allow me to collect my fair share of revenues from advertising.

Four book reviews are there now. It's kind of a bore that the Weebly site that accepts Paypal purchase links won't accept full-length book reviews or articles, whereas LJ won't accept Paypal purchase links, but this is the best system Priscilla King's Online Bookstore has for now (until it attracts sponsors and/or a webmeister).

If you'd like to buy secondhand books at a price that includes a fair payment to the authors as well as me, and also guarantees that each copy shipped was in good condition when I mailed it, please help test the Paypal buttons at the Weebly site during these two weeks.
