Introduction

Hello,
I'm Marie.
I saw this comm in the spotlight, and it harkens so much to what I've been ranting about to my other artist friends of mine that I thought I ought to join and learn something from people who have put much more thought and work and experimentation into it than I thought possible. It sounds so fascinating and inspiring and amazing. Plus I didn't even realize I'd already been participating by playing in One-Card-Tarot-Draws!

I'm a visual artist, and dancer, and sort-of-writer.
As far as art - of geez - there are paintings, and line art, and digital art, and collage art, and art journaling - and the point where all of those things intersect.
And then there's bellydance (in my other LJ: [livejournal.com profile] miischelle ). I perform mostly, and also teach occasionally.
And the writing is just sort of experimental at the moment.

But what a wondeful idea! I'm sure I'll be lurking for awhile, and asking questions from time to time, looking for ideas and inspiration.
It's so nice to meet you all.

We're glad to have you here.

Yay, it's working!

>> and it harkens so much to what I've been ranting about to my other artist friends of mine that I thought I ought to join and learn something from people who have put much more thought and work and experimentation into it than I thought possible. <<

That's what we're here for, all right. Watch for more posts on major crowdfunding topics all week long. The "Memories" file also has some good references.

>>Plus I didn't even realize I'd already been participating by playing in One-Card-Tarot-Draws!<<

Yep, those count if the diviner takes donations. Divination/OCD is our Thursday topic.

>>I'm a visual artist, and dancer, and sort-of-writer. As far as art - of geez - there are paintings, and line art, and digital art, and collage art, and art journaling - and the point where all of those things intersect.<<

We have all kinds here. I do mainly writing -- the Poetry Fishbowl is my most successful project -- but the scrapbooked poems are artwork, sort of related to collage.

>>And then there's bellydance <<

I love bellydance. I am now trying to imagine crowdfunded bellydancing.

>>I'm sure I'll be lurking for awhile, and asking questions from time to time, looking for ideas and inspiration.<<

By all means, ask questions and join in discussions. We're a friendly bunch. You'll find plenty of projects to browse too -- people often post here about what they're doing.

I love bellydance. I am now trying to imagine crowdfunded bellydancing.

It would require a bit more effort, but if you can find a server where you can post videos behind a password, you could offer short clips on YouTube or Vimeo, and a subscription to full-length videos.

One possible donor perk might be "suggest a new dance move you'd like to see".

Oh, those are good ideas! And I've just been discussing livestreaming with some other folks -- that would be another option.

Hmm ... if you had a good enough drummer, you could add choice of rhythm as something that donors could request. And if you wanted to add a particular item to your wardrobe, like one of the fancy expensive coin belts, crowdfunding might raise the money for that.

Oh, that's a good idea!

I've seen dance challenges. Back in college, I went to some SCA events and a lot of what I know about bellydance I learned from Thais. She used to do challenges, and she could bellydance to anything and make it work. One of my great regrets is that I didn't discover Cecil Taylor jazz until after our paths stopped crossing. That would've been epic.

Okay, if you try this, please tell me so I can link to it. I would totally watch.
